About Us
In 1980, while living with the Lockhart family in Texas, our founder, Taku H. Maeda, came up with the idea of introducing Japanese green tea to the West. He embarked on this mission not only because his family was in the traditional Japanese green tea business, but also because Maeda felt destined to make it his life's work to create a "next generation" green tea lifestyle in the United States - a true "East meets West" harmony.
Maeda was born and raised in Nagasaki. Nagasaki was Japan's only international trade port for more than 200 years (17th to 19th centuries). Since the 16th century, Nagasaki has been a gathering place for people from all over the world.
