Care & Handmade Characteristics

Each piece is handcrafted and kiln-fired, so its color, glaze, pattern, shape and dimensions may vary slightly. Iron spots, pinholes, glaze variation and natural kiln marks are characteristic of Shigaraki ware and are not defects. Shigaraki clay is naturally absorbent; before arranging fresh flowers, test the vase with water and place it on a protective mat in case moisture seeps through the base. Handle with care, as ceramic is fragile.
